Week 2.2

This week in class, we took time in groups to brainstorm ways in which we could narrow down subject matter, these were the different brainstorms:
  

 
 

 

I decided to primarily focus on the sub-categories of gender as this is my chosen topic. After doing this brainstorm, it made me consider which issue I was most affected by and therefore the most passionate about. This pushed me further into researching the gender pay gap in NZ

I then discovered this article:

It is filled to the brim with facts and information that was all relevant to gender inequality in the work force. This lead me to then choosing a fact which I then had to create a poster from, the line I chose was: "New Zealand women earn 12% less than their male counterparts" This shocked me as I thought we were a country on top of all inequality issues, but this made me reevaluate why this subject matter was so important to me.

I designed this poster in this way as earning much less than our male counterparts does make us feel as though we are trapped in their shadow.

Week 3.1 During today's class I sat down with Matt and discussed all of my work to date and what posters I could create before the interim presentation. Together we discussed the idea of dividing my boob cake poster (see below) into two seperate posters as he felt it was trying to convey too many ideas all in one go. Week 6.2 - Hand in

Week 6.2 - Hand-in! These are my final posters! Rationale My topic for my posters was Gender Equality, with focus on equal pay. I opted to use a slice of cake as my concept to illustrate this inequality, colouring the slices to reflect the difference in pay between men and women in New Zealand. I also designed these two poster in different mediums (photographic and illustrative) in order to emphasise my concept and attract a more diverse audience.   In the photographic poster, I opted for a very minimalistic approach, in order to achieve a clean cut design style. I placed the text at the top in the available negative space. For the image, I utilised a photo of my cake with a shallow depth of field, focussing on the pink slice to emphasise the fact that it’s an issue involving women, with the remainder of the cake in the background eluding to the idea that they’re only getting a small cut. Week 5.2

Week 5.2 This week consisted of a lot of baking in order to ensure I could back a cake so that it looked just right. The below photos are me during the process of icing the cake. I was really pleased with how both the cake and the photos came out (see below) It also encouraged me to want to go in a slightly different visual direction to what I had initially been planning.
